Anniversary Waterfalls
We spent our honeymoon in Ontario, Canada, first spending a few days in Toronto before travelling around the province including the obligatory stop at Niagara Falls. It was such an impressive sight and we did the full touristy package with a trip on the ‘Maid of the Mist’ clad in our bright blue waterproofs. For our first wedding anniversary we booked a couple of nights in a hotel in North Yorkshire that had been recommended to us: The Wensleydale Heifer. Over brekkies on the Saturday morning, we were contemplating our plans for the day and were keen to visit the best-known local attraction, Aysgarth Falls. They are in a beautiful location in what you might consider to be a typical Yorkshire Moors landscape and we had a very pleasant time there. Photos were taken and we commented on the incredible contrast between these tranquil falls and the sheer power and energy of those at Niagara. It was really just a coincidence that our first anniversary had included a trip to a waterfall but it didn’t take long for that coincidence to coalesce into a project and we decided there and then to visit other waterfalls on all subsequent anniversaries whenever possible.
